Hello guys! As said by Dr. Seuss "Sometimes you never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory." Now that I look back at these 16 weeks, I feel really appreciative for those that guided me and allowed me to grow. This internship was one hell of a ride but I definitely gained lots of new experiences and knowledge from it!

This last week was rather nerve wrecking as we were told to present our project to the executive committee! :( We had to review our report over and over again to ensure that everything was correct. Also, we prepared our presentation numerous times to ensure that everything would go smoothly. To me, Singapore Polytechnic has already inculcated these skills and knowledge in presentations and it was quite the norm as per other presentation modules. These skills and knowledge are really valuable and essential in this 21st century society.

After the presentation, the CEO gave us his opinions and views on the project and the system. Through his comments, we were able to observe how a proposal is being assessed by a company's management. I felt that these were the real important tips to pick up instead of the presentation itself.

As with Singapore Polytechnic's framework of CDIO ( Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate), we were able to carry out the first 3 stages of this framework in this project. We first conceived and gathered information and knowledge regarding the CGH mattress rental process. Thereafter, we went on to design the system through defining the problems. We then implemented the new system by coming out with the mobile application design as well as the new mattress rental process flowchart.

To me, this project has been a meaningful and contributive one. We felt that we were really doing something for the company and the sense of satisfaction and appreciation is amazing.
Below are some of the presentation slides that we have done.

Hello guys! It's been a busy week with the rushing of our Project JANA as we had to prepare to present to the mattress team this week and to the executive committee next week. As internship is coming to an end, tasks and assignments at United BMEC seems so fast-paced and quick.

During these 15 weeks of internship, one rather particular interesting information I would like to share about would be the Agency for Integrated Care. (AIC) It was formed as an independent corporate entity under the Ministry of Health in 2009 to look into the enhancement and integration of Long-Term Care sector.

AIC develops and promotes cilent-centric initiatives to help patients, their family members and caregivers to navigate the healthcare system with ease and confidence. One initiative they promote is the Seniors' Mobility and Enabling Fund. (SMF) This SMF scheme subsidizes the cost of assistive devices that aid mobility and enable independent living. This is in line with my company, United BMEC's product line of assitive devices. Below is one product that my company often sells to patients under the SMF scheme.

With this SMF scheme, a heavy percentage of 90% is subsidized by AIC. Therefore, with only a 10% payment required by the patient, it really helps the patient to have better access to healthcare facilities and equipment in Singapore.

I feel that this is an interesting and valuable knowledge gained through my internship in United BMEC. Previously, I had no idea that there are so many organisations that aid and support the healthcare facilities in Singapore. See you guys next week for my final week! :)
Hello guys! It's officially the 3rd last week of internship! Time really flies! This week was filled with interesting experiences which I would want to share with you all!

Earlier this week, the interns (Jun Jie, Ayman and I) was working on the clocks that displays different time zones in the world. We were handed 4 clocks by Don to show the distinct differences around the world. He explained to us that it would be beneficial for the sales personnel to be able to know what time it is at the other side of the world so as to be able to contact certain suppliers. We did not want to print out a label to attach it to the bottom of the clock as we felt that it was rather plain and ugly. Therefore, we decided to re-print the whole clock outline with WordArt in Microsoft Word. The results are shown below:
The 4 clocks showing different regions of the world
Another interesting experience this week was the Alter-G machine. The treadmill is a rehabilitation equipment that helps patients with walking hindrances and problems to walk better. It is able to reduce your weight to a mere 20% with it's state of the art anti-gravity pockets. Below are some photos of one of the BMEC staff and me using the treadmill.

With the reduction in weight to 30%, I was surprised by the amount of time I was sprinting. Usually, an average person is only able to sprint 30 seconds at maximum speed. However, with this Alter-G treadmill, I was able to run 5 minutes at sprinting speed! This is really an interesting and eye-opening experience and I am thankful to be given this opportunity to try it. Till next week guys! :)
Hello guys! This week has been an eye opening experience because of the offsite meeting this Saturday.

I was tasked by Mr Ang, the CEO of United BMEC, to prepare a set of PowerPoint slides to explain the healthcare structure of Singapore and the direction United BMEC was heading towards. Before arriving at the offsite meeting at Raffles Marina, I had no idea that it was a luxurious and grand location. Below are some photos showing Raffles Marina.

As it was located at the end of Tuas, it was literally next to the sea. The view was amazing and relaxing. Unfortunately, I was preparing the slides for Mr Ang and did not have more time to enjoy the amazing view. I felt that this was an interesting experience and did not regret attending it. I felt that this kind of meetings are essential for the growth of the company. With leaders of the organisation determining the direction of the company and the staffs voicing out their opinions on certain issues, it will indefinitely help the coordination of the company. Below are more photos of the meeting.

This week has been really interesting and I hope to learn more next week! See you guys :)
Hello! Time flies as I'm 3/4 done with my internship! This week was a rather meaningful one as it was filled with informative and progressive elements.

With regards to project JANA, we have progressed on to structure the product specifications required to make the application. We have spent this week working on the application design interface to ensure that the application is fully structured and does not have any problems/flaws on it. Below is a screenshot of part of the application design.

We were also assigned to do a report based on the structure of Singapore hospitals. Initially, I thought that hospitals were only classified to 2 categories: government hospitals and private hospitals. However, after doing further research, I have realized that it is not that simple. The hospitals are structured into different healthcare groups to take care of. There are a total of 6 healthcare groups. These groups can be identified from the info-graphic below found from Google.
I feel that researching on this healthcare structure of Singapore has allowed me to be more knowledgeable. With all these progress in JANA and information from the healthcare structure of Singapore, I feel really satisfied with this week! See you next week guys! Counting down to the end of intern :) 4 more weeks!
Hello! First of all, I would like to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR! This week has been yet another short week as well. Luckily, I have something interesting to share about this week.

During every year end, United BMEC would conduct its annual stock take. We were assigned into 3 teams to conduct the stock take. This is to ensure greater efficiency as the 3 teams were assigned to the respective division sales personnel. With their background knowledge of the products they sell, they would more or less know where is the stock located in the warehouse as well. With the warehouse personnel, Royce, ensuring that most stocks were properly located and packed, he has helped the whole stock take process much easier and faster. Conducting physical stock take is essential as the company has to ensure that the physical stocks in the warehouse tallies with the stocks reflected in the SAP accounting software. Below is a photo of a list of items I had to verify in the warehouse.
List of items and 2015 stickers
After we have verified the stock, we would stick a sticker labelled '2015' to help us know that we have already checked that stock. The shelves in the warehouse is labelled in alphabetical order starting from A. In addition, details of the products in that particular shelves was also pasted below the alphabet of that particular shelf. Some of these products were in 1 lot (1 set of items) whereas others were in pieces and boxes. Below are photos of the warehouse in BMEC.

I feel that this is a meaningful and interesting experience. As most of the product related industries have to conduct physical stock checks to ensure that their stocks are tallied, being involved in United BMEC's stock check allows me to understand the process and purpose of checking inventory stocks for a company.
Hello guys! Merry Christmas!! This week is yet another short week for me. As I was having my pool competition on Monday, I had a Leave of Absence (LOA) from my school. Also, as Christmas falls on Friday, I ended work at 12.30pm on Thursday. With such a short week, I'm sorry to say I will have little information regarding work this week.

The only interesting task that I have done this week other than my usual duties is the processing of electronic invoices. In order to promote environmental sustainability, the Singapore government has implemented several measures to save paper. For example, they have created a series of online government tax portals for suppliers to file their e-invoices in order for the government to make payment. Several government tax portals include: www.gebiz.gov.sg and www.vendors.gov.sg. These tax portals are user-friendly and very easy to use. I got the hang of it after the first try. These e-invoices we filed are usually commissioning and maintenance done by our service engineers at different government facilities. Below are screenshots of GeBiz and Vendors website.

Previously, the usual operating procedure is for us, the suppliers, to print out the physical tax invoice and send it out to the respective government facilities in order to receive payment. With the new and online system, not only do we save time as it is updated instantly, it also saves the environment by reducing our environmental footprint. I feel that this is a very good approach that companies can start adopting to their payment system. That's all for this week! Till next week guys! :)
